Chagrin Highlands Dental Group Cares About Your Safety

At Chagrin Highlands Dental Group, the health and safety of our patients and staff is always a high priority. In these unprecedented times, we are more dedicated than ever to providing a safe, sanitary experience. We are closely monitoring guidelines from the American Dental Association (ADA), the Ohio Dental Association (ODA), Centers for Disease & Infection Control (CDC), Occupational Health & Safety Administration (OSHA), and the Ohio State Dental Board. Using their advice, we have devised new protocols, procedures, and policies to ensure our patients’ and staff’s safety from COVID-19. These policies include seven important steps:

  1. Good hand hygiene – the key to staying healthy at any time of year, especially during a pandemic, is good hand hygiene. We wash our hands with disinfectant soap for 20 seconds throughout the day, and before and after each patient.
  2. Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) – this includes gloves, face masks, and face shields.
  3. Respiratory hygiene/cough etiquette
  4. Sterilization and disinfection of patient-care items and devices – we use modern technology to ensure all of our tools and devices are clean and sterile for each patient.
  5. Environmental disinfection and control – using EPA-approved disinfectant, we clean all surfaces in the office throughout the day, and of course, in between all patient appointments.

New Safety Measures

Our remodel is complete, which worked out well with the timing of the state-mandated closure. You will barely recognize us when you come back in! Our check-in and check-out desks have safety guards up to protect you and our staff from close interaction, and our waiting room seating is socially-distanced. In order to maintain proper distancing protocols, we ask that when you arrive for your appointment, you wait in your car and call us to let us know you are here. We will ask you a series of screening questions regarding your health and possible exposure to COVID-19 and let you know when you can enter the building. Unless the patient is too young to come in alone, we ask that ONLY the patient enters the building. If the patient requires parental supervision, only one parent may enter with them. Upon entering, we will take your temperature and ask you to sanitize your hands. Hand sanitizer is available throughout the office to use as necessary. All of our staff will use personal protective equipment (PPE), including masks, face shields, gloves, and even gowns when necessary. All of these items will be replaced or disinfected between patients, and as needed if they are soiled.

Sterilization Techniques

While we always take great care to sterilize anything a patient comes into contact with, we are being more diligent than ever about sterilizing and disinfecting all of our patient-care dental tools and devices in our dental autoclave sterilizer. The autoclave uses heat and pressurized steam to kill microorganisms on tools and devices. Per the guidelines from the CDC, we are cleaning and sterilizing all tools in between patients based on manufacturer’s instructions, and we have a variety of monitoring tools at our disposal to ensure the effectiveness of the process. In addition to the use of PPE and the use of our sterilizer, we take great care to disinfect all of the office surfaces like desks, treatment chairs, electronics, and counter-tops regularly. We use EPA-certified, hospital-grade disinfectant to wipe down surfaces before and after each patient. If you feel like you are waiting a bit longer than usual for your appointment to begin, this is why. We will take every precaution necessary to keep you safe!

We are looking forward to welcoming you back to Chagrin Highlands Dental Group in our beautiful new office, with enhanced safety measures. If you have any questions about our new policies and procedures, or you’re ready to make an appointment, call us today!
