Crowns are some of the most versatile dental treatment options available. We use dental crowns to replace teeth, restore severe tooth damage, strengthen weak teeth, and cosmetically enhance a person’s smile. At Chagrin Highlands Dental Group, you can enjoy a new, healthy smile in as little as one day with dental crowns!

What Are Dental Crowns?

Dental crowns are a restorative and cosmetic treatment option. They are widely used as tooth replacements. Crowns are commonly made from porcelain or ceramic. These are carefully designed to match the color and shape of your natural teeth.

Dental crowns can be used in a variety of treatments and are often used to:

  • Prevent decay
  • Provide support or reinforcement
  • Anchor a bridge into place
  • Cover a dental implant
  • Protect a damaged/weakened tooth
  • Improve the appearance of a smile

What Types of Crowns Are Available?

Several materials can be used for dental crowns. The most common are metal, porcelain, and ceramic.

Porcelain and ceramic are the most popular options for dental crowns. Although they are more expensive, these materials are strong and natural-looking. With these, most people won’t even be able to tell that you have a dental crown.

What is the Procedure?

Depending on your personal needs and preferences, we will recommend either traditional crowns or CEREC one-day crowns.

For a traditional crown, Dr. Desatnik will begin by taking an impression of your tooth. We will send this to a dental lab where your new crown will be created. Depending on the material, the lab will create a design that will look and feel just like a natural tooth. Because we have to order traditional crowns from a lab, this procedure will take two visits to complete. We will give you a temporary crown to use while you wait for your permanent one to be made.

For a CEREC one-day crown, we can use advanced in-office printing technology to design, create, and place your new crown in a single visit! To do this, we will take a digital image of your teeth to use as a blueprint. We will then use this information to design a 3D model. Finally, our CEREC machine will take this model and create a permanent ceramic crown.
