Dental implants are a great way to replace missing teeth. Implants are surgically attached to the jaw bone and act as a foundation for tooth replacements like dentures, bridges, and crowns. Because implants are attached directly to the bone, they provide an unmatched level of strength and stability.
At Chagrin Highlands Dental Group, Dr. Desatnik can skillfully place dental implants to restore the look, function, and feel of your teeth!
How Do Dental Implants Work?
Dental implants are made of titanium screws and posts. Titanium is a bio-friendly material used in many medical operations, such as knee and hip replacement surgeries. When attached to the jaw bone, implants mimic natural tooth roots. Unlike traditional dentures, implants help keep your bone and gums healthy.
After your implant heals, Dr. Desatnik will attach a customized, ceramic crown to the post. We will design your new crown to match the color, size, and shape of your natural teeth. Because implants use an artificial root system, they are sturdier and more reliable than other replacement options.
What Does the Procedure Involve?
To begin, Dr. Desatnik will examine your mouth and bone structure to ensure you are a candidate for dental implants. Because implants are directly attached to the jawbone you must have a certain level of bone density to be considered.
Once Dr. Desatnik has determined that an implant is the best treatment option for you, it will be time to surgically implant the post. Our committed sedation dentistry team will do everything possible to make this process as comfortable and stress-free as possible.
After the implant has been attached, your gums will begin to heal around the post. Over several months, your implant will permanently fuse to your jawbone. We will provide you with a temporary crown while your mouth is healing.
To finish your procedure. Dr. Desatnik will attach a custom crown to your implant. Your new tooth should look and feel just like the rest of your natural teeth!
How Do I Care for My New Tooth?
Dental implant treatments are a permanent way to replace one or many teeth. Take care of your new tooth as you would care for your natural teeth. To avoid cracks, chips, and breaks, do not bite or chew on hard foods like ice. If your crown becomes damaged, call us right away!
