Root Canal Therapy

Root canals are often the best treatment option to treat severe infections in the teeth and gums. Although there are a lot of stigmas attached to root canal therapy, this is a low-risk, relatively painless procedure. With modern techniques, laser technology, and sedation dentistry options, we can make your treatment comfortable and stress-free!

Do I Need a Root Canal?

Root canals are necessary when a tooth becomes severely infected. This happens when an infection spreads to the base of a tooth and becomes integrated with the dentin or pulp. In this case, a root canal may be the only way to save a tooth from extraction.

Several symptoms may point to a severe infection. If you are experiencing an unusual sensitivity to hot or cold foods and drinks, are enduring severe pain, have swelling around your tooth, or have an abscess – you may need a root canal.

Even if Dr. Desatnik determines that a root canal is not necessary for your tooth, you may still need treatment. It is always important to call your dentist anytime you are feeling unusual pain or sensitivity.

What is a Root Canal?

A root canal is often the best way to save a tooth and preserve your oral health when an infection spreads. This treatment can preserve your natural tooth, relieve discomfort, and prevent further damage.

To remove the infected tissue in your tooth, Dr. Desatnik will first make a small incision at the top of your tooth. With advanced dental laser technology, this can be done quickly and with more precision than by traditional methods. After clearing away all of the infected material, Dr. Desatnik will sanitize your tooth and insert a strong resin or porcelain filling.

To finish your treatment, we will place a custom crown over your tooth. Your filling and crown will help prevent further infection while restoring your ability to bite, chew, and speak normally.
